Jang Pa

Jang Pa continues to explore marginalized experiences and senses through the language of painting. In particular, she evokes awareness of femininity through the feminine gaze or female sexuality and visually expresses the 'feminine grotesque'. In terms of subject matter, the world of female desire is newly reconstructed by putting women's physical characteristics, which are disparaged as materialistic and lowly, at the forefront of paintings. When it comes to the method, it questions the gender-biased visual language and conceptually presents color and tactile characteristics by focusing on feminine sensibility. The artist collected art historical icons and cultural symbols dealing with the female form and developed a work that looks into the concept of misogyny, a socially problematic issue, at multiple angles. Recently, through the existence of female creative gods such as Seolmundae Halmang and Mago Halmi myths, they have refused to assume women as a single category and are seeking a new feminist identity.
