Shim Woohyun

Shim Woohyun's paintings are like a maze of familiar flowers, weeds, trees, forests, and ridges. Plants in nature that are overlapping in a dreamlike state are organically connected. The canvas, densely filled with drawing and colors, is like a mural resembling a gigantic forest or a maze. The forest is drowning in high noon, lengthening the time. Shim Woohyun's drawing is a movement of representation that proceeds simultaneously while acknowledging the mix of experiences as they are. This is because the overlapping and confusion of vague and indefinable images metaphorize the inner movement of the artist. Drawing itself becomes a metaphor for movement. Her drawings are suggestive, like shadows or illusions of reality. Drawing transforms events and matter into dreams and surreality. Drawing is a monumental device for her, whether it be human, nature, or the self, and it records and represents changes in intimate senses and emotions. The artist's paintings allow people to feel that the vitality of the forest and nature is still alive around our dwellings.
