Seo Minjeong

Seo Minjeong's paintings are not representations of traditional objects, but images of movements that respond or correspond to the artist's attitudes and movements. Painting is a record of the artist's body movements and breathing. Artists are living beings, so they breathe. The movement of the breath she inhales and exhales is the simplest proof of existence. What is observed and recorded between moments of life and death becomes a painting. The dead cannot speak and are also without pictures. There is only the quiet darkness. For a living person, the afterlife belongs to the realm of imagination. Paradoxically, that imagination makes the present life more vivid. There, all images can be treated as objects with the same weight and quality in reality. We dream, but reality is part of the dream, and the dream is part of reality. The real and the imaginary compose us by interchanging their positions, by filling in, emptying out, and changing. In the middle of civilization, the artist moves through the complex relationships and events of reality that are densely packed like a wild jungle.
